ELERTS launches “Alert SacRT” mobile app for Sacramento Regional Transit

Communication platform to help increase the safety of riders and transit personnel.

(Weymouth, MA) September 20, 2016 — ELERTS Corp., the leading provider of “see something, say something” mobile apps for mass transit, developed the Alert SacRT app for Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) to support their “See It, Hear It, Report It” campaign. The app enables riders to discreetly notify the transit system about safety and security issues observed or overheard.

“Sacramento RT is proud to be working with ELERT to create the AlertSacRT app,” said Henry Li, RT General Manager and CEO. “This is a valuable communication tool for our riders as we welcome and rely upon the public’s help to keep Sacramento RT safe.”

“ELERTS is excited to deliver its crowd-sourced incident reporting service to SacRT and its riders,” said Ed English, ELERTS’ chief executive officer. “We look forward to working closely with SacRT to help riders improve the overall safety of the transit system and be able to easily communicate with SacRT personnel. The voice of the rider is an important source of information for transit security staff.”

Riders with iPhones and Android phones may easily report such incidents as assault, theft/robbery, nuisance behavior, vandalism and suspicious activity. ELERTS’ solution also integrates a Text-A-Tip service, which enables riders who do not have a smartphone to send reports to transit police.

The Alert SacRT app transmits reports over cellular or Wi-Fi signals. Riders may submit reports anonymously if they choose. The app automatically disables the camera flash so that users can discreetly take photos to include with their incident report. If the Wi-Fi or cell signal is temporarily unavailable, the app stores the report and delivers it when signals are available.

The transit police dispatch center manages the reports. Two-way communication allows the dispatcher to ask riders for more details and broadcast alerts to all app users. The transit system can also enlist the help of riders with BOLO (Be On the Look-Out) alerts for missing persons or persons of interest, and provide information about delays and service interruptions.

ELERTS commercial off-the-shelf solution is deployed at major transit systems throughout the US, including Atlanta MARTA, Boston MBTA, Buffalo/Niagara NFTA, Charlotte CATS, San Francisco BART and Santa Clara VTA. Transit systems rely on ELERTS communication platform to engage riders across a service population in excess of 11 million.
