ELERTS-powered MBTA See Say App Now on Android

July 17, 2012

We’re excited to announce today that the MBTA See Say app we developed for Boston’s Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA) is now available on Android. Following a very successful iOS launch of the app in May, it was a natural next step to make this powerful solution accessible to more transit riders – enhancing the ability of riders to say something if they see something – creating a safer environment for everyone.

The MBTA See Say app supports the popular ‘If You See Something, Say Something’ campaign and enables MBTA riders to quickly, discretely and anonymously send reports of suspicious, criminal or emergency activity – including text, photos and location information – directly to Transit Police. Have you tried it yet? It’s free, easy and informative – the app also alerts riders (who have the app on their phone) of service delays, down time, changes in schedules, missing child alerts and more.

The MBTA is the country’s 5th largest transit system with more than 1.3 million customers a day. To-date, the MBTA has received hundreds of reports from its riders about activities including graffiti, medical emergencies, safety hazards and suspicious packages.  BOLO (Be On the LookOut) reports are another great use of the smartphone communication system which ELERTS designed for transit systems; the MBTA has also used the app to broadcast missing person reports to riders.

The MBTA See Say app was developed through a partnership between our organization and the MBTA, and leverages the popularity of smart devices and the demonstrated interest by riders to crowd-source and crowd-share public safety and emergency reports. This is just the first in many upcoming announcements from ELERTS regarding the use of our smartphone communication platform – stay tuned for more news as we continue to announce new partnerships with transit systems, college campuses, power utilities and hospitals nationwide.
